Blog: China Interested in Canadian Oil Sands
October 16, 2005

In an article published by Associated Press on October 16th, Canada's natural resources minister is reported as saying that China could be importing 400,000 barrels per day from the oil sands within the next 7 years.

Canada's oil sands currently produce approximately 1 million barrels per day.

The heads of two of China's largest oil companies, PetroChina and CNOOC, met with resource expert John McCallum in Beijing, in the general setting of the G-20 meetings.

The transportation of Canadian oil sands to China is expected to become more viable with the planned Enbridge pipeline from Alberta to the west coast of Canada.
